Top at Christmas

It’s become apparent that Chelsea will be top of the of the table on Christmas day thank to the victories at Sunderland and Crystal. Aside from the fact that Conte and his Chelsea players are producing some very good football at the moment, winning with such convincing regularity despite their early setbacks during the start of the season, having them top at Christmas bodes well the clubs prospects and odd for the winning the title.

Chelsea Top at Christmas

On the four occasion that Chelsea have been top going into the festive period has resulted in them winning the title, doing so in 2004/05 2005/06 2009/10 and most recently 2014/15. Indeed, currently, it’s hard to predict what’s going to happen in this campaign, especially as it’s the most competitive title race in recent years. But Chelsea’s form right now makes it very difficult to foresee anything other than a fifth premier league title going heading in Stamford Bridge’s trophy cabinet. A team capable of winning 11 games in a row, only conceding two goals in the process and not competing in the mid-week Champion League fixtures doesn’t show any signs that they are going to throw it away. In regards to their form, they have been so consistent with their results that Conte needs to be applauded with what he has done with the team, do you think they can go all the way? Why don’t you chuck on a bet on them with Best Deal Casino, with all their reviews, you might be able to find those perfect odds!

With all this being said, Chelsea’s record doesn’t reflect with the entire Premier League; other teams have actually found it more difficult holding on to the top spot throughout the second half of the campaign. Since the start of the Premier League, only eight have lifted the trophy after being top at Christmas. So that makes 12 of the 24 teams having held the lead from December through to May. Yet, it has become quite common that within nine of the last twelve season, the team being top at Christmas have gone on to win the title. The only two teams in recent years who have been top at Christmas but failed to bring in the gold are Arsenal and Liverpool.

Helps the Confidence

Being top at Christmas tends to encourages your confidence and give that psychological boost in winning the title. It gives you that momentum which helps you drive through that busy winter period and beyond into spring. However, Chelsea currently looks like they are enjoying the ride, they just need to stay focused and continue grinding out the results.  Yet, each time the Gunners have won the Premier League, they found themselves trailing behind the top spot at Christmas and had to overturn a point’s deficit at to eventually finish top. The BPL is one of the most unpredictable leagues in the world, Leicester proved that last season, so Chelsea can finish top at Christmas, but who’s to say they’ll win it? Maybe we’re instore for a surprise at the end of the season… only time can tell, but for now, I have Chelsea going all the way.
