Super Bowl LI Preview

Atlanta Falcons V New England Patriots

As we slowly approach one of the most electrifying and spectacular events of the year, this season’s Super Bowl is looking like one of the most anticipated match ups we’ve had in recent years. This season was a rather odd one, but we couldn’t have been given a better contest. Two Quarterbacks playing probably their best football of their careers and the excitement of seeing two of the most potent offense come face to face this Sunday!

The Favourites

New England Patriots are making their seventh appearance since the Tom & Bill Belichick erg began more than 16 years ago. They are coming into match as favourites yet again and are looking to win their 5th Lombardi Trophy. But it’s not going to be that simple because there is a very destructive offense and they very in-form QB wanting a bite of that cherry and all season we’ve seen that they don’t like sharing. The Atlanta Falcons shouldn’t be overlooked and to be honest, my bet is going on them; all you have to do is look at this sublime offence throughout this season, which is now being considered as the most dynamic offense in history- one that can carve up any team and this is going be something of a spectacle.

A tip for this game regarding your betting activity- put money on a high scoring game; all you need to do is look at the stats of the two teams:

New England Patriots     Atlanta Falcons
1,872 rushing yards    1928 rushing yards
Tom Brady    Matt Ryan
112.2 rating    117.1 rating
4th in total yards    2nd in total yards
4,308 passing yards    4,725 passing yards
32 made touch downs    38 made touch downs
Patriot’s Defence Stats Falcon’s Defence stats
34 Sacks 34 sacks
23 takeaways 22 takeaways
1st ranked in points allowed 27th ranked in points allowed

So as you can see, the stats almost mirror each other, but I just think, despite the Patriots ‘Dynasty’ the Falcons are the best team in the NFL this season and their offense is too dangerous. But it all depends on the day, they could choke (highly doubtful) but it could be like what saw of the Panthers last season.

The odds

Thus far, the outright winner for the match is the Pats on 7/10 and Falcons on 15/11, Vegas have the Falcons on a +3 over the Patriots (over/under: 58.5)

It’s worth knowing that the Pats have gone 4-0 against the Falcons with Brady on the field which is probably why the Pats are the slight favourites coming into this game. They have gone 7-0 against the spread in their last seven games with average margin of 19 points, on the market New England are on a -3 with 21/20 odds and the total points of the game under 58.5 is at 10/11 but I think the score line will be higher than that and Mohamed Sanu is 16/1 as the first touchdown scorer.
