Poker Masters Festival underway

The terrestrial Poker Masters festival is underway at the Las Vegas Aria Resort & Casino and so far, Bryn Kenney is ahead in the high roller stakes.

High rollers proving their worth

Poker is hugely popular worldwide and has a massive following both in terrestrial casinos and online, and professional poker players earn hundreds of thousands of dollars – tax free – every year.

This week at the Poker Masters festival in Las Vegas, Bryn Kenney added a further $960,000 to his current $19.2 million tally. Kenney is one of the world’s most successful and profitable poker pros. Earlier this year he won the PokerStars Championship in Monte Carlo, netting an impressive $1,784,500. Not a bad income from just playing cards!

Kenney’s run

The event started with a field of 48 starters, generating a prize pool of $2.4 million between them and trying to win a spot in the final seven in order to receive a pay-out. When the final seven standing began to play, Kenney was actually in the middle of the chip counts.

The first to fall was Spanish poker pro, Sergio Aido, going out in seventh place after collecting a cool $96,000. Next to fall by the wayside was US pro player Cary Katz, for a pot of $120,000. Following another day’s play, only two players remained, including Kenney.

Two-handed play kicked off with Kenney sitting on $3.225 million versus his opponent, Seidel’s $2.745 million. The match was action packed with plenty of twists and turns to keep spectators enthralled and after a series of double-ups, Seidel emerged in front. However, Kenny quickly doubled, leaving Seidel with virtually no chips left. The final play came around pretty quickly after this, seeing Seidel go all in and Kenney call. Kenney emerged victorious and collected both the title and the majority of the prize pot. However, Seidel collected $576,000 for his second place – all in all, not bad for a few days’ work.
