Federer Beats Nadal, Winning the Miami Open

Roger Federer beat Rafael Nadal this weekend in straight sets, winning the Miami Open- this also means he has just picked up his third title of 2017! The famous Swiss tennis champ beat his Swiss rival with what seemed like ease and for the fourth time in a row (third time this season alone) which is impressive on any level. This success also means that Federer also secures his place as number one in terms of ranking points and will also rise to number four in the world after his Miami title adding to his Indian Well and Australian Open titles this season.

The champ told the Miami crowds, “For me, the dream continues, it’s been a fabulous couple of weeks. First in Indian Wells and now in Miami. The atmosphere is very special; I’ve been coming here since the Orange Bowl when I became the world number one junior. Thanks to my team, what a start to the year, I can’t believe it. Thank you again and thanks for last year when it wasn’t so good too. ”

Nadal remains optimistic about adding further titles to his 69 this year despite this match bringing his Miami Open defeat to five. With clay court season fast approaching, it can be suggested that is saving up his energy for then and he had this to say, “It’s disappointing for me that I have been trying during all my career. Every three years I am here in this position but always with the smaller trophy. I am going to keep trying hard for the next couple of years. Hopefully I will not have to wait three more years to be in that position fighting again for the title. ”

The atmosphere at the Miami Open final was thrilling and the conditions for the game could not have been more perfect. The two players played at an exceptional level and it was not until the 8th game that the winner of the match became clearer. Nadal appeared to struggle whereas Federal fought for the top spot without faltering. Despite Federer’s struggle in serving when playing against Berdych in his quarter final game the player took the game in his stride and fought back against those who believed he would suffer from the same problems in the Miami Open final.
